Driver CPC 7 Hour Module Outline

Aim:

Give drivers a clear understanding of how the operator licence requirements and different areas of compliance impact on their roles and responsibilities.

To enable candidates to lift and handle loads safely and recognise a load that is too heavy or awkward.

Objectives:

Candidates will be able to:

  • Discuss the role of the Traffic Commissioners
  • Discuss how an operator’s undertakings affect drivers working day
  • Explain the importance of vehicle maintenance and defect reporting
  • Calculate driving and working hours
  • Identify areas of risk regarding fixed penalties and deposits
  • Explain Operator Compliance Risk Scores
  • Discuss most serious infringements (MSI’s)

This course will cover topics that include:

The Role of the Traffic Commissioner, the operator licence undertakings, vehicle maintenance and defect reporting, Driver CPC, Operator Compliance Risk Score, Most Serious Infringements (seven deadly sins), Fixed Penalties and Deposits

Practical elements include:

Identify areas to be checked on a Daily Walk Round Check, engage in ‘Fingers on Buzzers’ drivers’ hours / Working Time Directive quiz game’.

  • Recognise a load that is too heavy or awkward
  • •Understand the limitations of the spine and the muscular system
  • •Competently carry out a Manual Handling Risk Assessment
  • Competently lift and handle loads safely
  • Show awareness on the dangers of careless and unskilled methods of manual handling techniques
  • Discuss the legislation relating to Manual Handling

This course will cover topics that include: health and safety legislation, definition of manual handling, the musculoskeletal system, anatomy of the spine and muscular system, good posture and back pain, good lifting techniques, reducing risk, manual handling assessment charts.

Practical elements include:

Group lifting exercise, completing ‘risk assessment’ exercise
