Candidates will be aware that they must not drive whilst they are tired. They will know the tell-tale signs of tiredness and pull over safely until they are in a fit state to drive again. Candidates will also be aware of the consequences of driving whilst they are distracted. The course should ensure that candidates do not drive whilst distracted. Candidates will learn about nutritional values and the effect that this can have on performance. Candidates will also be aware of various sleep disorders.

Vehicle Checks & Defects
Candidates will know how to conduct a thorough vehicle check. Candidates will know that the check must be carried out prior to starting their shift, taking over another vehicle or trailer, and throughout the entire shift. Candidates will know how prohibitions work and be aware of the potential consequences of failing to carry out a thorough vehicle check.
